Anti Social Social Club x NASA: A Streetwear Tribute to the Moon Landing
The clothing brand Anti Social Social Club recently launched its first ever collection in collaboration with NASA. Each item is co-branded with symbols and graphics symbolizing NASA's historical events and technological breakthroughs.
With motifs such as floating astronauts and rockets blasting off, ASSC's collaboration with NASA has curated an tasteful aesthetic for the current zeitgeist, reflecting the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction.
The Jupiter-Uranus Cycle
Jupiter-Uranus is a 14-year cycle from one conjunction to another. Within that 14-year cycle there are four major alignments: the conjunction (0º), opening square (90º), opposition (180º), and the closing square (90º) which then leads to a new cycle with the next conjunction (0º). Thus a major alignment between Jupiter-Uranus occurs every 3-4 years.
Jupiter symbolizes the broadening of horizons, expansion of knowledge, and successful endeavors. Uranus characterizes technological innovation, rebellious freedom, and the cosmic trickster. Thus, when the two planets come into alignment, there is generally a spirit of optimism and innovation around new technologies and endeavors.
Success in Space: Jupiter-Uranus and its Tendencies
NASA was founded in 1958 during a Jupiter-Uranus square alignment, and 11 years later in 1969, NASA made a monumental achievement by landing the first humans on the Moon with Apollo 11.
Furthermore, this moment was significantly historic as it took place during the major Uranus-Pluto alignment of 1960–1972. The Uranus-Pluto combination expresses itself through innovative and disruptive evolution. When Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the Moon, Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto were in a tight conjunction, providing the energetic impulse to achieve the impossible.
Many successful initiations into space have taken place during a Jupiter-Uranus alignment. Here is an article I wrote in August 2023 reflecting on the current alignment–which had just entered into orb in June 2023–and its diachronic patterning in history through the story of Moon landings:
The Reverberation of History in Culture
Archetypes work in mysterious ways. The current scientific paradigm does not have the sufficient tools to enable us to discover the reasoning behind astrological causation. As founder of Archetypal Cosmology, Richard Tarnas states:
The planets themselves are not “causing” anything to be happening in our lives, any more than the hands on a clock are now causing it to be 7:30 PM. Rather, the planetary positions are indicative of the cosmic state of the archetypal forces at that time. The fact that the planets constantly seem to indicate these things with such accuracy simply suggests that the cosmic order is much more profound and pervasive than our conventional beliefs have assumed. But the relationship between a specific planetary pattern and a human experience is best seen as one of meaningful correlation or correspondence, not one of simple linear causality.
Thus, ASSC's collaboration with NASA is a profoundly creative synchronicity. The collection evokes in us, the scent of the past–the elements of history which continue to pulse through our consciousness in mysterious ways. By wearing ASSC's hoodie one is able to enter into the depth of history.
Perhaps then, it is no coincidence that this summer, a film about the 1969 Moon landing, Fly Me to the Moon, will be in theaters.
Similarly, another well known film about the Apollo 11 Mission, Hidden Figures was released during the Jupiter-Uranus opposition in late 2016.
Synchronicity–in the form of planetary archetypes and deep history–is magic happening right before our eyes. As Carl Jung said:
Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see.
